Current Movies to See
We saw "No Country for Old Men" last week and were blown away. This is a new one from the Coen Brothers. However, you'll see no Lebowski comedy in this one. This is an edge of your seat man-on-the-run drama. Go see it. It's winning awards left and right.

Walter: Fucking Germans. Nothing changes. Fucking Nazis.
Donny: They were Nazis, Dude?
Walter: Come on, Donny, they were threatening castration!

I've heard bad things about I am Legend?

I'm always up for some man-on-man drama, so "No Country for Old Men" sounds right up my alley.

..how did you get that picture of me? It's not on my Facebook or my Myspace... ...it's on my phone.

With such a substantial review, I would definitely take it for all it is worth.

Director] Lawrence is pretty good at the spectacular stuff. And he's smart enough to let Smith be Smith. But there's only so much you can do with CGI monsters that don't seem right for this kind of sci-fi scenario.

I Am Legend is carried for a long while on the strength of Smith's performance, but even he can carry it only so far.

Smith is worth watching; the movie is not.

I liked it better when it was called 28 Days Later.

Combining the poor choice of Will Smith in the lead with some of the worst CG work since Van Helsing, this dog makes the recent The Invasion come across like a masterpiece.

After its promising opening, I Am Legend devolves into a generic zombie slaughterfest, highly reminiscent of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later.

it seemed to me that most of the people around us shared our view. When the movie was over and people were leaving, almost all the comments I heard were negative.

  1. Go to http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/i_am_legend/
  2. Look for only the reviews with a red tomato (or green splat) next to them
  3. Select text and copy.
  4. Paste here.

I agree with the CGI criticisms. The same problem I had with the "28" and Legend is the over zombification of the infected. I would not nominate it for any awards, but I also would not go so far to seek out negative reviews just because I "heard it was bad." (I am assuming you sought out those reviews after I asked you what you heard)

All movies have negative reviews. It is impossible to please everyone.

This movie entertained me. As I posted yesterday, I found it to be very similar to "28 Days/Weeks Later". If you liked those movies, you will probably enjoy Legend. If you did not, try Alvin and the chipmunks instead.

I'll probably watch the Simpson's movie, along with borne ultimatum, and No Country before I watch I am legend.

I like how i'm called out for saying I heard it was bad, very inviting.

I've watched zero movies at the theaters this year, so I guess this thread isn't for me. I'm gonna lock myself out of it Smile

BTW, It was good to see carbon, we missed you!

No Country for Old Men had very very few negatives. Just give in. Will Smith will never make a great movie. He's just too Will Smithish.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/no_country_for_old_men/

That is the ONLY negative review for No Country, it scored 95 out of 100

Alternatively, I am Legend scored a 62, and was chock full of bad reviews

You've said "I would not nominate it for any awards"...not exactly a steller endorsment

Plus, seeking out negative reviews is the EXACT method i use to make a choice on TV's Electronics, and other purchases, and i don't see why movies get a free pass

I am not trying to say it was the greatest movie ever. It was not. But it was entertaining. I would recommend waiting and renting it, but scary movies with "jump out" scenes tend to go nicely with the theater experience.

I am interested in seeing No Country For Old Men. But I am not expecting it to be the best movie the Coen Bros. have put out (as the rottentomatoes percentage might lead one to believe). I have heard that it is kind of similar to Fargo, but more violent and not as funny.

Fargo was too funny and lacked violence

I'm nominating NCFOM for movie of the year

Netflix today changed their online viewing policy to unlimited access. No more limit on hours you can spend. The selection is still shaky from what I hear, but this is a cool move

You beat me to it Eskimo. I was on my way over here to post the very same thing. The TV show and documentary selection is getting pretty good, but the movie selection is like one of those late 80's to early 90's independently owned video stores. You know, the ones before Blockbuster with names like "That's Entertainment" or "Stellar Videos".

I saw "Atonement" with the Lizard a couple weeks ago. This recently won Best Picture at the not-so-golden globes. It was a great WWII-era film. A love story that sort of rips you apart with tragedy from time to time. A really memorable non-fighting war scene on the beaches of France. Good story. Good acting. We recommend.

I want to see Cloverfield. There is something about movies of mass destruction that gets my imagination running wild. Movies like this will often suck real bad or be entertaining in a thrilling kind of way. As of now, it scores a 79% on the Tomatometer, pretty good for this type of movie.

RE: Current Movies to See
I saw The Bucket List with my parents. It was a good thought-provoking story about life and death. For some reason I have been on this endless quest to find some sort of personal meaning with death and this was just another movie on the list, (I recently watched Tuesday's with Morrie and before that Dragonfly) I have taken 2 classes on death and volunteer with dying people in Hospice care. Am I obsessed with death? I don't know.

But Movies not about death I want to see...uh, well, I don't know any. Oh, Sweeny Todd. That looks good, but most people will give it a bad review because it is a musical. I like musicals. But i am also a HUGE Tim Burton Fan. Could you tell?

Oh yeah, I AM LEGEND: 8.2 Mil Atonement:4.2 Mil The Bucket List:19.4 Mil
I can't seem to find NCFOM oh, wait, 1.2 mil. I think NCFOM had enough publicity.

Hey, its good to see you back in full argumentative force Pro Ass! Welcome!

I watched District 9 last night. I had a good time watching it. This means that is was not the greatest movie ever, but it offered a couple hours of entertainment. In addition, it provides interesting food for thought, as movies about alien visitors tend to do. On the negative side - there were big plot holes and excessive blockbuster movie type stuff, but overall I was glad I watched it.

I recommend downloading it or renting it.
