That's one for our side!

Under the malign influence of the wicked and silly Sally Kern, some Oklahomans were trying to pass an awful religious viewpoints anti-discrimination act, which would have simply given further privileges to majority religious views in the state.
Fortunately, Governor Brad Henry has vetoed the legislation, saying
Quote:Under current state and federal law, Oklahoma public school students are already allowed to express their faith through voluntary prayer and other activities. While well intended, this legislation is vaguely written and may trigger a number of unintended consequences that actually impede rather than enhance such expression. For example, under this legislation, schools could be forced to provide equal time to fringe organizations that masquerade as religions and advocate behaviors, such as drug use or hate speech, that are dangerous or offensive to students and the general public. Additionally, the bill would presumably require school officials to determine what constitutes legitimate religious expression, subjecting them to an explosion of costly and protracted litigation that would have to be defended at taxpayers expense.
It's one small step back from the brink of theocratic inanity, hooray!

Anti-gay Okla. lawmaker caught with gun at Capitol
Quote:OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A state lawmaker who gained national notoriety with an anti-homosexual rant was stopped from entering the state Capitol Wednesday when she was found to have a loaded handgun in her purse, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Patrol spokeswoman Chris West said Republican Rep. Sally Kern was not charged because there did not appear to be any "malicious intent" behind her actions.
West said officers are allowed to "use their brains" when determining if an arrest should be made in such instances.
West also confirmed a second incident in which Kern made it into the building with a gun in June.
Kern complained earlier this year of receiving death threats after an audio clip was posted on YouTube in which she calls homosexuality a bigger threat to the U.S. than terrorism.
Guns and knives are prohibited in the Capitol and those who enter must pass through an airport-style security checkpoint, including a metal detector and an X-ray machine. It is a misdemeanor to bring a weapon inside.
Kern told The Associated Press Wednesday that both incidents were simple mistakes.
The first time, the weapon got through the security checkpoint, she said.
"I got all the way up to my office before I realized I had it, so I reported it," she said.
On Wednesday, she said she forgot to take the .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun out of her purse after she stopped to talk to a colleague.
"It was an honest mistake from being out of my routine, you know," she said.
Kern said she had a permit for the gun and had carried it long before the YouTube controversy.

RE: Representin'...
A little bit from Inhofe, the guy who represents us.
From Tulsa World.
Quote:Regardless of what polls show, Inhofe said, voters will have to ask themselves a question once they get behind the curtain in the voting booth on Election Day.
"Do you really want to have a guy as commander in chief of this country when you can question whether or not he really loves his country?" he asked.
"That's the big question.''
When asked for clarification:
Quote:"Let me be clear,'' he said.
"I am not questioning Sen. Obama's patriotism, but you have to question why at times he seems so obviously opposed to public displays of patriotism and national pride, like wearing an American flag lapel pin.''
OK, so question whether or not Obama loves his country, say you are not questioning his patriotism, and then question his patriotism based on whether he sports a flag pin that was made in China.
Here is another gem I saw a week ago in the Journal Record
Quote:[Inhofe:]“And later on, I ran into John [McCain] in the cloak room and he said: ‘Look, Jimmy, we’ve had our differences of opinion ... but I’m going to be president and you’re going to be chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and we’re going to need each other.”
I am ready to be better represented or I am ready to move out of this retarded state.
VOTE FOR ANDREW RICE.

Sally Kern's Proclamation for Morality
Quote: WHEREAS, the people of Oklahoma have a strong tradition of reliance upon the Creator of the Universe; and
WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and
WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and
WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and
WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the undersigned elected officials of the people of Oklahoma, religious leaders and citizens of the State of Oklahoma, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world, solemnly declare that the HOPE of the great State of Oklahoma and of these United States, rests upon the Principles of Religion and Morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE
